Banks Using RMMRU’s Training Manual in Their In-House Trainings

The IFIC Bank invited RMMRU to conduct a two-hour long session on, ‘Inward Remittance: Industry Perspective’. This was a part of a day-long workshop organised by the bank for capacity building of its officials dealing with migrants’ remittances. As resource person Dr. C. R. Abrar first made a presentation on the topic that was followed up with a lively discussion. Later RMMRU resource persons Marina Sultana and Makfie Farah conducted group work in which participants identified possible areas of improvement of bank services for transfer and utilization of remittance flows. Video clips of the RMMRU Training Manual on Remittances were also screened at the session. Reacting to the workshop one of the female participants noted that, “I now have a comprehensive idea on migration and remittances and in that way this was a useful session for me.”

RMMRU has been working to promote good governance in migration and remittances for the last fifteen years. It has developed a video training kit, an audio-visual training aide and a guidebook, for grassroots bankers involved in remittance section. The Unit has distributed the video training kit to all the national and international banks operating in Bangladesh to use it in their in-house training sessions on remittances. In continuation of these efforts RMMRU has also developed a training manual, ‘Remittance Management at the Grassroots’ for the bankers, a supplementary for the video training kit. It is using these training aides and updated compiled data on migration and remittances for its training purpose.

Earlier, RMMRU held a meeting with forty one bank representatives from thirty public and private national and international banks on 07 April 2010. In the meeting participants expressed their keen interest to incorporate RMMRU’s training in their in-house training.

Currently RMMRU is imparting trainings to some private banks. It is also in talk with other private and public banks for future RMMRU-bank training collaboration.
